Course Descriptions:
All classes limited to 10 students

Painting, with Brittany Williams

This class will be about taking objects, pictures, or plant life (mainly fruit) and using two methods to paint the objects using water color and acrylic, one is drawing the subject first as an outline and the other is first applying color and then adding details in and around the picture to create the whole picture. This will allow those that don't normally draw the ability to learn or learn a method that doesn't require illustrative skills so much as it does patience with color.

Drawing, with Brittany Williams

The class will focus on basic shapes and using a box-grid method to get the eye used to drawing in proportion. The studies in the boxes will include animals and humans, after a quick sketch of pottery/boxes to show me how far advanced the students are with perspective, shading, and skill. Skills including: Contour, cross-contour, perspective, proportion.

Digital Photography, with Brittany Williams

This Class will be focused on camera techniques and finding pictures, the art of picture taking isn't just randomly snapping, but finding and cropping a subject inside of a certain frame. I will be using a book to introduce the basic principles (and use handouts so that when sent on assignment without supervision they'll have those notes) of photography and then finding and photographing subjects in an aestetic way.

Woodcarving, with Jim Hall

Students will learn to carve a caricature of a person over the six-week course, beginning with the head. Students will learn to use basic woodcarving tools, safety techiniques, and where to purchase woodcarving supplies if they want to continue to experiment with the art form at home.

Clay Handbuilding with Lahla Deakins

Deakins will lead students in making functional pottery, such as mugs and plates, using various handbuilding techniques. Methods include slab building, coiling, and pinching. A great beginning course for those interested in learning to work with clay.
