February: Printmaking

Teacher: Lahla Deakins

Students will learn to print multiple images from their own master plates they'll create using styrofoam, wood, cardstock, ink, paint, and other materials in a variety of ways. We'll explore how the image on the plate is "reversed" when printed onto paper, and practice using positive and negative space.

Classes for 5-8 year olds meet on Tuesdays beginning February 2, 2010, from 4-5:30 p.m.
Classes for 9-13 year olds meet on Thursdays beginning February 4, 2010, from 4-5:30 p.m.
Tuition is $45 per student for the month.

March: Pastels Sculpture
Teacher: Lahla Deakins

Students will learn to use colorful chalks to make unique portraits and other drawings, plus learn about famous artists who have used this distinctive medium in their own work. Classes will focus on using different techniques to achieve different effects using the same pastels each week.

April: Egyptian Art
Teacher: Lahla Deakins

This class will take students back in time and to another culture, where they’ll explore Egyptian hieroglyphics, kings’ sarcophagi, and lots more. We’ll use clay, parchment paper, gold paint, and a variety of other materials to create our own Egyptian relics.

May: Clay
Teacher: Lahla Deakins
We’ll draw mostly from our imaginations in this creative clay class as we make all kinds of sculptures, from people to animals to made-up creatures! Students will learn technical skills of attaching pieces of clay together and using coils, slabs, and other techniques to build their pieces. All work will be kiln fired by the instructor.
