August 7, 2009: David Appalachian Crafts Showcase
Textile arts including quilts and rugs, plus hand-painted gourds from David Appalachian Crafts will be on display at the Artisan Center during the month of August. David Appalachian Crafts is "is a non-profit organization aiming at preserving traditional mountain crafts including beautiful patchwork quilts and pillow covers, baskets, pottery, wood whittlings, sewn items, dolls, wooden toys, painted gourds, fabric Christmas ornaments, and many other crafts." September 4, 2009: Family Night

The Pike County Artisan Center will host its monthly First Friday event September 4, but instead of an exhibit for the public to view, the public is invited to make the exhibit.

 

Children and adults of all ages are invited to visit the Center from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday to create their own pieces of art, which will then be displayed at the Artisan Center as the featured exhibit for the month of September.

 

“This event is going to be a great opportunity for the whole community to come out and participate in an activity together, and a chance for the Artisan Center to educate people about art,” Artisan Center Director Lahla Deakins said. “The project won’t be complicated or require any previous experience—we just want to show that everyone can be an artist.”

 

The specific art activity will be announced at the event on Friday. The Artisan Center will provide all materials.

 

The event is free and open to the public, although donations are recommended and greatly appreciated. Refreshments and music will be provided.
